I read an article some week back about how either city or state officials are trying to get the Red Line extension funding money hopefully before Obama leaves office. That'd be nice to have.

Illinois pays more in federal taxes than we get back. If Trump wants to withhold federal funding, why can't we withhold federal taxes? Imagine if CA, NY, PA, MA, etc. did this. Those who suffer most would be Americans in TX, MS, AR, AL, etc.

Well, I'd like to know how much Chicago gets. Anyone know? And Chicago cannot legally withhold federal taxes. That would put us on a battle we'd ultimately lose (e.g. Chicago benefits from the U.S. Army and other federal services). And we'd have to pay back taxes and penalties like Willie Nelson did. They could also seize City assets to pay for it. Soldier Field = Trump Field, LOL!!!

Right, but the federal government depends on Chicago, NY, LA, SF, Boston for people and money to provide federal services...it goes both ways. If people despise illegals that greatly just avoid living or spending money in these places: http://cis.org/Sanctuary-Cities-Map

Meanwhile Trump is already calling Rahm and asking for advice.

Quote:
SCOOP: TRUMP CALLS EMANUEL -- Despite heated rhetoric about Chicago violence on the campaign trail, post election, President-elect Donald Trump phoned Mayor Rahm Emanuel to pick his brain, a source familiar with the conversation told Illinois Playbook. The source said Trump asked about the mayor’s experiences with both the Clinton and Obama presidencies and what lessons were learned in their transitions. “The conversation was cordial and they pledged to keep the lines of communication open in the future.” Trump also had recent conversations with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Emanuel brings up Sanctuary City -- The source said Emanuel told Trump that Chicago was a city of immigrants and “pledged that it is and always will be a sanctuary city.” There was no detail provided on whether the issue of city violence came up during the call. In recent days, Emanuel helped set up a legal defense fund for immigrants and refugees living in Chicago who are threatened with deportation. More on that further on.

"The source" wink-wink nudge-nudge told them this and told them that. Sure they did... Like Trump needs advice from that weasel. If the call did occur, I'm sure Trump was feeling them out for weak spots. Let's see what song these mayors are singing after inauguration day.

Rahm has helped two White Houses transition. It's actually something he knows about that Trump knows nothing about.

On the top of sanctuary cities though, Rahm had an in person meeting with Trump today in NYC.

Republicans advocate for retaining the electoral college because it's the sole reason they've been able to win several of the past elections.
This nation is not 'almost a direct democracy' and the electoral college is not a 'sometimes inconvenient technicality' that can be adjusted because election losers are upset. There is no short bridge to cross between what we have now and direct democracy.

The current system, and the one that you wish for because it would allow you to win, are two entirely different animals. There is no BS about the situation. We simply don't elect on the system that you are suggesting, thus there is no reasonable point to be made in regard to it in the context of election results, and therefore there is no injustice in the result. End of story.

The electoral college is made for large unions like the one that we have. It isn't ever going to go anywhere, no matter who benefits. If you want to participate in direct democracy, then move to a small nation where such a system is entirely more practical.

The GOP has lost the popular vote more than once yet won the White House. I don't think the opposite has ever been true, lol.
