I have also been liking what I see on the Edgewater neighborhood, and I kinda wish it was closer to the Loop and given that it is farther north I am wondering if someone could tell me if this area is urban in every possible form of the word, or is it more like a suburb? Not looking for the suburban feel so I hope it isn't.
Go by Wilson and Broadway or Wilson and Sheridan and you will find all the urban you ever could need or hope for.

Edgewater and Uptown are nowhere near being like a burb for the most part.

That's cool, not looking for an area to get into trouble or anything, not in me to do stupid things but don't want to be trapped in a strip mall, yuppie heaven and an area with one sided views on every corner. Thanks for the info, atleast I have an idea of that section of Uptown having some issues. Edgewater is where I am going to hang out for two days when i go to Chicago mid March for a few days. Any thoughts on how long it takes to get from the Bryn Mawr station to the State/Chicago station on the red line? I will be going to school for the first year in the River North area, probable close by for work as well, and wondering what my travel time would be like. Thanks guys.

The CTA trip planner could give you a good estimate. Always leave early when taking the CTA. I do not think it would take over 45 MAX from Bryn Mawr to Chicago and State. Many times it should take about 20-30 minutes from my experience.

someone else mentioned buena park before.
that's where i'd send you. edgewater or andersonville works, too.
the latter may be too pricey.
