I lived in Oak Park for 5 years and Berwyn for about 11. I will say with a straight face and without any hesitation that Berwyn is the more diverse of the two as I would define that term, at least for the moment.

How do you define diverse?

Ok, you like Berwyn. Does it fit what the OP is looking for? That's the question here.

Too bad the OP never came back to tell us what kind of diversity he/she is looking for.

From a prior thread, racial/cultural/ethnic diversity appears to be a priority, with 10% African American population as desirable.

Per 2015 Census, Oak Park is 61% white, 13.3% black alone (so if identify as mixed race, counted elsewhere), 17.6% hispanic/latino alone (so if identify as mixed race, counted elsewhere), Asian alone 5.6%.

C'mon. You know both communities right? I would not define "diversity" as "a group of like-minded well-educated and well-off liberals who like to celebrate their inclusiveness of groups who are not in the 'dominant culture' (read not white middle class Christian heterosexuals) + < 25% low income non-dominant culture members," hehe I'd define it more along the lines of diversity in age, educational attainment, value placed on education, race, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship status, employment status, income, culture, values, and ultimate behavior.

I'm not sure if Berwyn would fit what they're looking for. If they're looking at Oak Park, I would guess probably not? I'm just saying that if we use the term diversity literally, Berwyn is more diverse. But I don't think when people refer to Oak Park and Evanston as "diverse," they are referring to diversity in that literal sense. It has another meaning.

The words "diverse," "schools," and "$500k budget" in the same sentence leads me to believe Oak Park is the one yes.

I don'y think there's anything remotely historic about Schaumburg, Palatine, or Rolling Meadows. Maybe Palatine a little, but that's a stretch.

Look for the suburbs that are very close or right on the border of Chicago. These are the suburbs that are the oldest, most diverse, and most city-like.

Someone recently said that La Grange was urban on here. Of course, they were probably originally from Boise but maybe the OP should look there too.
