A friend is moving from another country to Chicago this summer, and is looking at living in the city. What TV and internet providers are available and good? They would want high-speed internet, but I'm not sure about TV. Thanks!

They're all pretty good if you don't mind paying $150-$250 a month.
Otherwise get some data..maybe with basic cable (local channels) and stream Netflix / Hulu etc.

I prefer the the latter. keeps it under a hundo.. which still sucks

Your two main cable providers for internet (and cable TV) would be Comcast and RCN. Just pick whichever one gives the better deal. If they don't watch a whole lot of cable, just get an antenna and save some cash.

I loved having RCN when I lived in Chicago -- for both cable and internet. The unit owners in my highrise got a very low bulk rate, so the entire building was hooked up and it was included in my rent, so I'm not sure how much it would cost.

You can get Gigabit connections with RCN now for under $100/month. Nice and speedy.

Thanks! I've never heard of RCN. I live in Atlanta (my friends are in Spain) and am not sure what's available in Chicago, which is why I posted the question. So your answer is helpful, thanks!

I've read about Level 3. Anyone used them or heard about how they are?

...ya know.. I got the slowest connection available from RCN and guess what? I can be on line. watch netflix, use the phone w/wi-fi. listen to music(wi-fi) all while my son is on the latest PS4 games without trouble. I think it's a 10MPS connection

of course they tried to upsell me, but I used to be in the data business and I know better.

Of course they said it would be slow// they said if I wanted o stream it was a bad idea..

it was $35 when i started years ago.
