I've got Hispanic and white neighbors. The Mexicans were playing their awful repetitive banda trumpet music. But the whites were playing loud metal.

I don't want to hear either one.

There's no solution to this. I've lived in the suburbs and dealt with a*sholes using damned leaf blowers at 5:30 am. ('I'm up, why aren't you?') Similarly, raging backyard parties once a fortnight or so.

I've lived in Washington Heights and enjoyed blaring bachata at 3 AM all summer long. Obnoxious, spoiled little kids in London thumping the common walls.

I've even lived on an acreage in isolated woodland. You know what? At 4AM (±depending on the sun), the birds woke up in the tree outside my bedroom window and raised hell. I cut down the tree... the birds moved to the next tree, and ripped apart my cedar window lintels in retribution.

The only time I've experienced real peace was in hermetically sealed concrete highrises. A friend's glass box rental was fabulous. Even better was, IIRC, the Sydney Hilton, which had blackout on for the windows and total silence, day and night. Bliss.

So yeah. Noise is life, like death and taxes.
