Can you find a single family home in chicago for under 200,000. That is the most I can afford I also do not want a condo because of fees although I would think about it if it was a loft and HOA fees were under 250.

I already know of a couple areas I do not want to live in due to spotty crime:

Uptown
Rogers Park
Irving Park near kennedy
albany park

I am open to rest of city

open to up and coming areas like near west side.

I have not done to much searching other than sites like zillow and I read you should not use those sites that it is better to go to a local realtor.

I set my price and I am not sure there is anything nice for 200,000. It is one of the reasons I am looking at places in the south like tampa florida, ashville north Carolina.

I enjoy where I currently live near western and irving but homes are all a million dollars to start. We got priced out of our old apartment after they remodeled and started charging 1500 for one bedroom apartments near damen and western.

Recently I drove through pilson and it seemed nice.

I do not mind living in a diverse neighborhood but it would be weird to move in to a neighborhood where I would be the only white person.

You can't find house in uptown for 200 k so no need to worry about that. I mean, 5 min walk from the lake ..lol
My friend found a house close to Wilbur Wright College a few years ago...250k..single family, 1500 sq feet. Old but cute.

So if a married couple together makes 65000 seems like it is hard to have a home in a decent nieghborhood in Chicago.

I do not want a vintage condo.

Going all the way out by Wilbur wright you lose that living in the city feeling it's on the city limits.

Could you live near the city, like in a suburb like Berwyn or Forest Park close to the Western border? You might be able to find something there, and still have very good access to the city via train/expressway.

Yea 200,000 is not going to get you a SFH on the north side. Try McKinley Park/Bridgeport/Canaryville and there are a few SFHs that can be had for less than $200,000 and don't need major updates.

Nothing on the northside.
Belmont Craigin is the closest you'll get.
If not try the southside or the near west suburbs that still hold on the the Chicago street fabric.

You could try Hegewisch in the far southeast corner of the city. But again, although it's technically inside the city limits, it feels remote and you might not feel like you're in Chicago at all. It's very, very different from the North Side.
