We cozy up to the fire and tell stories while wearing wool sweaters patterned with snowflakes. Sometimes cousin Jed will sit at the piano and the whole family will sing along. And after the kids are in bed, there's bridge!

Isn't that the portrayal of the Midwest you always see in the movies?

Methinks that people are possibly being a we bit saracastic in their answers. However, I do think that I drink more in the winter, to be honest. Something's just really wonderful about sitting in front of the fire at the Hopleaf with a crisp Belgian Ale... And the mussels are truly heavenly. I tend to gain about three to five pounds each winter, and then have to work extra hard to burn it off in the Spring. If you move to the upper Midwest from someplace warmer, buy a treadmill or get a gym membership.

With all the winter bitching that goes on around here, I wouldnt put it past most people to do nothing but eat and sleep and watch TV most of the winter.

I agree about the Belgian beer though. Nothing better than a nice, cold Stella Artois.

I'm an outdoor person so I try to ski 3x a week. Yes, you can ski around Chicago. Nothing like out west - but I have to make do. I either cross-country ski in the forest preserves or drive to Wilmot to downhill ski. Keeps me happy and fit during the winter.

Thanks everyone for the comments. For a second I was going to get worried that all Chicagoans do in the winter is sit in front of the computer at home and post semi-sarcastic comments in the Chicago Forum on CityData. Thanks goodness that's not the case ;-).
