Sweeping generalizations, and not always true, but the richest people I know are democrats. I've tried to figure this out and it seems that people who are in business, doing well, but are not financially independent, are the most conservative people. Super wealthy people who have all the money they'll ever need tend to focus on causes, helping the downtrodden, etc. are more sympathetic to those needing handouts, more into the liberal arts, etc.

Rural = conservative
People running their own businesses = conservative
People looking for that little extra financial edge = conservative
Wealthy people beyond wanting more money = liberal
Urban = liberal
Poor people needing government assistance = liberal

Some people fit both a stereotypical conservative and liberal group - at that point family/friends come into play, among other things.

I think that's about right. Your fourth category can be explained by Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow...archy_of_needs

Unfortunately for us, one of them probably will be our next Governor. So unless downstate comes through with a Republican General Assembly and/or Senate, our money will be spent to fulfill his need for progressive policies in the blue top part of the triangle, while those of us on the South and West sides will struggle in the orange "Safety" part of the triangle as manufacturing jobs continue to bleed out of the State and misguided law enforcement and criminal justice policies continue to be implemented.

Your third and fifth categories overlap. They cloak themselves in liberal trappings on social issues, and can get pretty shrill about these issues, but they will not vote progressive when their own stuff is on the line. In the upcoming elections, for example, rent control will be a big issue and they won't go for that, since they're the ones buying up rental properties in hopes of getting ahead. I also don't think they'll like the progressive income tax idea, though how much that hurts Pritzger will be seen. These folks tend towards moderate Democrats, like Rahm.

The sixth category would be much better off asking why they need assistance and switching allegiances but they never do. This is largely why the Democratic party is so pro illegal immigration, as it will bring in many more of these voters and thus keep them in power.

From the results of the 2016 election, it would appear many got fed up and moved into category one! The Democrats always counted on the fact that they would have nowhere else to go. Well, in 2016 they found somewhere else to go. And if they aren't careful, they might start losing even more from category six.

The majority of America's poor are white people. The majority of welfare recipients are white people. This has always been the case. This idea that the majority of people on welfare are "liberal" inner-city blacks is a myth. It is actually poor rural whites--the white folks in places like the Ozarks, Appalachia. Poor white people in the south.

These poor whites on welfare tend to vote Republican, whereas poor, inner-city blacks on welfare often don't vote at all. They believe their vote makes no difference so they don't. This idea that blacks--poor blacks in particular--vote liberal because they think they are gonna get free stuff is a figment of white racists' imaginations.

If what you are saying is true, white do these dirt-poor whites in places like Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky vote Republican?

these are neo-liberals, and in pretty much any other decade prior to the 1980s they would have been considered republicans. by and large they are content with and benefit from the status quo.

super rich people are liberal because they can influence the government to become richer, and they don't really give a crap about paying absurd tax rates because they can either 1) pay some guy to avoid them and 2) take away 70% of 1 million or more obviously and you're still left with an extremely livable lifestyle

also it allows them to think they are so compassionate when their ancestors were probably anything but that

people that will be working for amazon with 100k a year jobs are not rich people... in this town thats upper middle working class
