^ Well most "hip" areas are ok to live in, but to shop and hang out in they mostly suck. ^

I'm not going to lie, I rather live in Rogers Park or Uptown than Englewood and I'm African American. Rogers Park is consider bad by Northside standards, but an upgrade if it was on the westside. Even Bronzeville is looking good nowadays. Some parts of Chicago is so run down that gentrification for it in the future is very bleak.

^ I like when people are honest. What you say would probably be echoed by many people in the AA community. ^

^ hell yeah. I'm AA also and i'd take uptown and rogers park anyday over alot of places. Actually id take them over most of the "uber yuppie" North side nabes also. At this point i really wouldnt mind living in bronzeville like around IIT or in lake meadows. I know they still got some projects there but it's nowhere near it was in the 90's. Not trying to sound like some bourgeois but hey im just being honest.

back to the north side, i see all these people talking about how uptown is not that good. I even read some dude's post on the city vs city forum talkin about how uptown is "slum". Honestly, if he thinks thats bad, i wonder what he would say if he was in englewood or on state street circa 2004. lol

Heh, funny, I feel the opposite: decent to shop in and hang out in, but can be a drag to live in.

You the first AA I heard that have the guts to live in Bridgeport. Its reputation still have a bad taste to many AAs till this day. Blacks only make up 1% and once you pass 47th St, you see black people all of a sudden. Its one of the few southside areas where blacks are almost invisible.

actually now that i think of it I really wouldnt see myself in bridgeport actually. Just would feel out of my element you know. I know it not as racisit as before but still. I remember my pops talking about how some of them irish boys ram him and his brother (my uncle) out of there in the 70's. They were new to the city so they didnt know. But yeah they just kicked em out. I was just trying to think of some nabes and that one came to mind but after some thought, i wouldnt see myself in bridgeprot not saying that i hate the place because it's pretty unique and all but not for me.
