I apologize for digging this thread up and being behind the times. I attend college away from Chicago so I've been cut-off to an extent and just learned about this today.

My opinion so far:

1) It's gorgeous and I've fallen for it.
2) If this succeeds in materializing and it sells, it will be another gem in Chicago.
3) With today's economy, I'll bet that a good majority of future residents won't be American, but internationals. The idea of a truly international hotel-condominium is just
mesmorizing.

They have been planning this thing for at least 4 years. Where have you been? :-0

It is ok to bring the thread back. This is a discussion that has no time limit!

Like a teenager, I was living in my own world. Go figure : |.

Don't worry though, I'm slowly puncturing my little bubble so new air can circulate in.

I think the Grand Fallos will complement the skyline quite nicely.

It's a pity that the Spire won't be built-up by my next visit to Chicago next summer, but it'll work fine as a reason for another visit.
The Trump Tower will be done by next summer though.

Well, the developers share your thinking, and have embarked upon a number of global sales expos in different cities. It will be kind of funny that, once this thing is completed, the tallest building in Chicago will have 15 people occupying it in January.

You mean the tallest building in North America. Actually in the whole Western Hemisphere I believe.

January of like 2011? That is when I think it will be completed...

I think he means January of any year, the point being that Chicago's biggest hindrance to becoming a major international playground city is the winter climate.

I am sure during the holiday season there will be plenty of occupants there at least in direct contrast to what happens in many gentrified areas. The well off foreigners in that building will eat up the b.s. that Daley and the machine throw at them on Michigan Ave and the rest of downtown.(At least for a few years.) That buillding will be a spectacle for a few years after it opens.

You should see how Lake View and Lincoln Park and other areas empty out for Christmas,Thanksgiving and Labor Day. That is when you can see how many people in those areas are recent transplants. Parking is a breeze...

...not to mention recent college grads who are going to spend the holidays at mom and dad's house in the suburbs.
