hello, i've already searched the forums but i still need some help.
so far from what i've seen from visiting chicago and from the forums these seem to be pretty good areas. i'm 20 years old, going to be going to depaul most likely, working near the red line and would prefer near the red line to get to work/school but am not sure which neighborhood to choose. ill spend between 1000 and 1800, probably closer to 1400. i'm new to chicago and am really concerned with safety and an active neighborhood to contribut to safety and entertainment. any suggestions or info or experiences welcomed. thanks!

There's not a whole lot to be said that hasn't already been said about those neighborhoods. All three of them will meet your needs, with the Gold Coast a bit more expensive and the crowd a little older. It really depends on you checking out apartments and finding out which deal is best.

You would be fine in any of those neighborhoods. If you'll be attending DePaul, living in Lincoln Park would be nice so you don't commute. Lakeview is close enough though. Gold Coast may be a bit old for you.

Living right around DePaul would be great if you were a student there. It's a gorgeous neighborhood, and is featured in the Sheffiled Garden Walk each year. I can't see any advantage for you to move all the way south to the Gold Coast or north to Lakeview.

After you've lived here for a while, you'll get a better feel for other neighborhoods if Lincoln Park isn't your scene.
