I have answered you each time. Personal anecdotes from the news are meaningless. That's for Fox News mouth breather types. Historical statistics speak for themselves.

Once again crime trolling has ruined a perfectly good thread

How is it meaningless when these are actual people who keep saying this? How is it meaningless when special meetings were held in those areas because the problem had become so bad?

Does the fact that Chicago threads about crime are banned and every thread turns into talk about crime mean there us a crime problem?

Threads about crime are assuredly NOT banned.

Opening new threads about the SAME topic regarding crime (e.g., crime stats) is banned. If you want to bring up new statistics in the same thread *that already exists*, do so until the cows come home...

There's a difference.

I don't know these people, but they clearly have no historical perspective. They probably bought a place a few years ago and some unfortunate event occurred nearby and they are freaked out. I see it in Lincoln Square all the time. Go back ten years and the crime rate was signficantly higher though.

The fact that when ever Chicago is mentioned the first thing people think of is crime says plenty. Even a Sports talk show host who just returned to Chicago after living in another city for a while said that as soon as he told people he was from here the first thing they would bring up is the crime situation in Chicago.

It's really embarrassing.

My in-laws, who have never set foot in Chicago and probably couldn't even point it out on a map, would likely say the same thing. But then again, they also think 1) Minneapolis is an incredibly violent and gang-ridden city and 2) have no idea that a city in their own state (Milwaukee) has a higher violent crime rate and a (generally) higher homicide rate than either. Not whom I would call experts...
