I'm early in my journey to homeownership. I have always lived closer to city center (Lakeview, Ukrainian Village, Pilsen) as a single person. I've not done a ton of exploration of the northwest side beyond visiting some friends who bought homes, there. Are Dunning and Portage Park good options for a SFH with a 300K budget? I'm newly taking in my sister and her 4 year old daughter...so schools are now a factor in my search. We are hoping for a 3BR/2BA without extensive rehab needs. (I don't think we'll be able to afford new construction or anything...but "livable" would be nice.)

You don't have to tell me these 'hoods are boring, because I know they will be. At this point, I'm looking more for quiet and stability.

The above house looks reasonable, I hate the paint colors but that would be easy to fix. It will be hard to find a two bathroom home at that price point. Maybe you will find one with a bathroom in the basement.
