Read an article yesterday that Amazon was seriously looking for a million sq ft of office space in Boston.

Wait Taxachussets may get it? That can't be! It has to go to some dumpy red state. That's what I'm told at least.

I sure would prefer that they get it than some sh**hole red state.

I heard something similar. I read something a few weeks ago (during the holidays) that Boston has become the front runner for the new Amazon headquarters. The piece I read mentioned, that they have started to get down to the nitty gritty details with Boston. Although I guess that plans with Atlanta and Austin are being made just in case.

Haha taxes in MA aren't as bad as folks think. Middle of the pack as far as income and property.

But, why would Amazon open a headquarters outside of Seattle/in Boston? They came out with criteria, and lower COL was part of the equation. Also, it's pretty well documented that a company like Amazon wants to go where this generation wants to live. Massachusetts is great, but it's a middle of the pack state when it comes to an net new influx of millennial white collar workers.

I've had my money on ATL and Austin from the start. My bet is on ATL with its low COL and incredibly active airport. There's a ton of direct flights over to the major cities in the EU, something they'll likely need.

Nah. Atlanta doesn't really have the culture Amazon is looking for.

Seems like an appropriate comment to make, in the wake of last night's news...

I'm hearing that Boston is definitely in the mix now, with specific details being discussed. I wouldn't rule out Chicago, though, as its cost of living is certainly lower....

That's exactly why I made it. Do the kind of people Amazon would employ want to move to Atlanta? I don't have those skills, but I'm well-educated. You couldn't pay me enough to move to the South.

I just started a thread on the Work/Employment forum asking for young IT workers comments on where they hope it ends up. Could be an interesting thread if people take it seriously.
