Hello all,
I'm new here, but have been reading various threads on ERP and the surrounding areas. I think I have found the place I will be living, and would like some opinions on it before I commit (happening this week). Here is the location:

loc: Lunt at Sheridan Chicago IL US - Google Maps

and here is a description of the place itself:

Eat-In Kitchen, Amazing Closets--Sunny, Top Floor (http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/sub/616818044.html - broken link)

I like that it is near the beach and the train, but I will have a car since I will be working in Rosemont. I am coming from Ann Arbor, so I don't know much about the area. Is this a "safe" area, relative to other options for a college student on a ~750$ a month budget? Any input on this would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Oh, and FWIW, I am a 6' male, 180lbs and in shape, so I don't really deal with people messing with me too often

Oh, and if anyone has any input on how long it would take approximately to get to the O'Hare airport vicinity (My office is right next to it) I would appreciate that too! Thanks.

Default 6'2, 180 in shape

Average Joe,

I was 6'2, 190 lbs and US nationals for rowing and still got mugged while an undergrad at Wash U in St. Louis.

People will mess with you if you put yourself in a bad situation. People with Guns don't care what size you are.

Just be careful and don't take anything for granted.

Honest to Christ, why another thread on Rogers Park? We've hashed it out a million times here before:

As for your commute question, Rogers Park to O'Hare will be unmitigated hell because you'll be in gridlocked stop-and-go on sufrace streets most of the way until you get to the Kennedy Expressway, at which time you'll be in stop-and-go on the "expressway." Bet on 90 minutes figuring that on a good day it will only take an hour.

Welcome to CHICAGO!!
I live in Rogers Park and that is a good location to move to. I have lived here for years and have never been mugged. Not to say that doesn't happen (this is the city) LOL, but I have never had a problem.
I also commute every day past Rosemont. I leave @ 6:50am and pass Rosemont on the Kennedy at about 7:20am each morning (so about 30 minutes). Not sure what time you would leave for work, but my travel time is the same each day. Hope this helps.

$750 for rent and utilities. I checked the link. The apartment is $750. So I assume the poster is not including transportation,food,etc...

Thanks for the responses guys. And to Drover, I just discovered the "please read this before posting" thread :embarrassed: but thanks. Right now the toss up is between this place and a place in Lincoln Park, near the marina (which I'd prefer). I'll continue going through the ERP threads. Thanks.

Drover,
People talk about ugly New Yorkers or ugly Americans...Why bother to respond if you are so annoyed by people from outside of Chicago asking questions? You live in a beautiful city...you can choose to be helpful or not, but either way, please lose the attitude. Some people need kind and helpful advice, not sarcastic rhetoric.

If it's too much for you, then better to not respond. No one is better than anyone else and we all need a little help, advice, answers, etc. from time to time.
Thank you.

Pretty funny seeing Mr. Two Posts deliver a netiquette sermon to the guy who probably helps more newcomers than anybody else on this board.....and who by the way DID offer constructive advice, and links to previous relevant posts, in his response -- unlike Mr. Two Posts.

I'll take Drover's attitude any day.
