It goes on just political bias and extremism too. Those who live AND ENJOY Chicago have every right to feel good. Yes the city is a Tale of two cities. But even sunbelt cities are. Amazing the bad areas in sunbelt newer rising cites have.

Merely Chicago has the gang shooting gang violence that skews its murders. Those not living in them notorious neighborhoods. Still have that aspect. Not effect them directly even in a lifetime.

But many use it all politically for agendas. They really do not REALLY care for those in these areas of cretins ethnicity. But one can't just assume right? If White in Chicago? These numbers will not be you. Just the reality in the vast majority.
My relatives lived FULL lives in Chicago and did move as those of the White-Flight generations in the 60s.

Homes try left still liked good 25-years later. But in areas of higher crime and gangs.

Previous generations had White Ethnic gangs. Still could violent but without the guns by far. Then came the NYC transplant All Capone and Prohibition gave him a vice to excel in and more.

Ever see the Gangs of New York movie of past violent eras?

I haven't seen research on this per se, but I would speculate that people with identities strongly tied to ANY one geographic area are more likely to be conservative than those who view themselves more as global citizens or members of a larger world community. I'm not necessarily talking about party affiliation, but just a more provincial mindset.

Yeah this is probably why cities like Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Louisville, and probably St. Louis are stereotyped as backwards hick towns. Certainly lots of homers there who would find their Chicago equivalent in a lot of old Irish or Polish South Siders (the latter not being thought of as hillbillies but still as rubes). Think inland Archie Bunkers for the Chicago versions.
