It's the Bears and it's not close.
This.

The Cubs are obviously the hot team at the moment, but that's only because they are the ONLY good team in Chicago right now. So the poll really isn't fair.

The poll should be done considering all the teams suck, or all the teams are in their league's respective championship game/series. Also, if the Blackhawks suck for a couple more years they will fall to the bottom, where they used to be for many many years before Patrick Kane showed up.

In general, I would say:

Bears
.
Cubs
.
.
.
.
.
Bulls
.
.
White Sox
Blackhawks

I don't live in, or near, Chicago.. but I'm curious: would there be a distinction between the most popular team within city limits vs. the surrounding suburbs (?)

I’ve only lived in Chicago for a few weeks and despite the fact that it is summer I see a lot of Blackhawks gear on the streets and the logo is more frequent in bars and restaurants than the other teams imo.
I live in West Loop

They play pretty close to the West Loop, for starters. If you go to Wrigleyville you'll see more Cubs logos in bars and restaurants, same with the Sox in Bridgeport or far southwest side neighborhoods.

If the Hawks don't bounce back next season half the city will forget most of the names on the roster. It may already be happening as they haven't been to the Stanley Cup in a few seasons.

Have to pity the White Sox a bit---they never seem to have a whole lot of backing, from any part of the city. You get the sense ( or at least, I do) that some White Sox fans are fans of the team purely out of spite, so as to defy the more numerous Cub fans...

I can't tell if you're trolling or just only spend time on the North Side. I bolded the part that is factually inaccurate.

Some Cub fans are fans purely out of "trying to be cool" and not caring about baseball. That being said, there are some serious Cub fans, but I've met many that talk solely about how great Wrigley Field or the bleachers or the bar scene around the ballpark.

Nationally it's Cubs. Locally the Cubs get a lot of attention, but as a whole the Bears might have them beat just given the population bases for each team.

I say Cubs or Bears. Maybe slight edge to the Cubs since they have been so good in recent years, and the Bears have been so terrible.

That doesn't mean they aren't popular. Just not the most popular. I would definitely put them in 3rd place. Cubs and Bears are definitely 1 and 2. White Sox and Blackhawks come after the Bulls.

If this were the 90s the Bulls would be undoubtly number 1 lol.
