Are you saying that the streets around my neighborhood should be more or less safe than the rest of the "south lawndale " If I look at the crime map that shows like the mask, car theft, ect it shows a few things (1-2) that go on during each 2 week period. There was a larceny, and then a couple blocks to the west there was a robbery. The only time I saw the gun one was a few months ago, and it was like at two in the afternoon so I am assuming there was some kind of confrontation that was not like a "random" attack.

I think I am going to go for it. If it turns out to be horrible, I will come home before dark every night. Its just it seems like more crime goes on to the west and north of me. Only a few violations are going on every few weeks near me, and for the most part they are much less the ones if I was living near campus. Does anyone know of anyone on the board here that actually lives in LV?

Thanks

Well, you'll be right on the border between a black area and a Hispanic (mostly Mexican) area and all of the ethnic and gang tensions that attend. If you know what goes on around there and you're still comfortable with it, all I can say is go for it and best of luck to you.

I hope he doesn't get hurt too but beyond that I'm just glad LV is getting some hipsters. I mean, hey, someone has to start it right? Will we be talking about Little Village in the same breath as Avondale this time two years from now? Stay tuned!

Even the skeevy part of Avondale isn't nearly as bad as Little Village, and hasn't been for quite some time.

I have been living here for almost a week now and not a single problem. People are friendly if you talk to them. The grocery store here puts Dominicks to shame. Laundry is dirt cheap. Maybe other parts of the neighborhood are bad but there were kids running around the neighborhood up until ten and the ice cream truck goes by tell about nine.
Perhaps it's just where I am located to the cermak bus that I don't feel unsafe, but I think that if someone is looking for an affordable and diverse place to live this is it. I walked in uptown during the day a few days ago and felt more nervous than what I did the entire time I have lived in LV.

You should start a LV blog on windy citizen. It might bring awareness to others who would otherwise write the neighborhood off.

I have a friend who lives not to far from Homan and 26th. He doesn't seem to mind. There is quite a bit of gang activity where he is at, but it's generally confined within gang members.

I agree, I am sure there is gang activity and shootings but from what I have observed if you mind your own business they will leave you alone. I even get hellos and how are you doing today's in LV. I will look into it because for alot of people this would be a very do-able place to live when starting out. The pink line can be slow when waiting for it but once your on it gets you downtwn rather quickily. I am typing this on the pink line as we speak. Sorry for any typos.

Is Pete's Fresh Market on Cermak the grocery store you shop at?
