The big question now is who will emerge as the consensus White candidate.

Yup, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard that. I felt he was still going to win, despite his woes. I figured he'd lock up the affluent lakefront voters, the pro-business vote, and probably much of the Hispanic vote due to the lack of a viable Hispanic candidate in this election.

That said, I had heard informally his polling numbers were not good at all, so maybe he felt with the Van Dyke trial looming, there was just no way for him to win. That trial will be a lose-lose for him regardless of the verdict. I guess time will show us the reason.

Not just that, but I believe its because of the recent marches and media attention regarding inner city violence, particularly in predominately black communities. Many of those complaining actually wanted the mayor to leave office before his turn was up.

careful what you wish for... Rahm was unpopular because he made some seriously tough decisions that needed to be made... can't wait to see what goodies and handouts these pandermen will be promising when they run for mayor

Yeah, other than Vallas the rest of the announced candidates are terrible.

Rahm has pals who've made lots of money at bond firms , the odds of Chicago getting better returns on that borrowed money are bleak -- Some Chicago aldermen leery of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's possible $10 billion pension borrowing plan - Chicago Tribune

I also gotta think that the fact his kids are in college means that the window of what sorts of things he might want to do when they move away is staring him in the face big time -- https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/em...at-uncf-lunch/

the writing was on the wall once he tried to suppress that laquan mcdonald video. luckily he already secured re-election before it was released otherwise he would have been ousted then.
