Oak Brook is much closer and likely won't take you more than 45 minutes either way most of the time. I just checked and it's saying it's 31 minutes from downtown right now (granted a little past rush hour).

With that being said, definitely drive. Public Transit is sparse out there so taking a train to a bus is likely not an option you'd be willing to endure.

As for the neighborhood, check out West Loop which would probably be A) The closest to work and B) The best/most up and coming neighborhood option for you two. It's also close to downtown. West Loop is known for it's restaurants and has a lively nightlife. It's filled with charming lofts and houses a good mix of families and working professionals. The only drawback for me is that it's not close to the lake.

Lincoln Park and Lakeview are both great options as well. I've lived both places and loved them both!
People were saying that because they said they wanted to live in Lincoln Park or Lakeview, which is a pretty different commute to Oak Brook than commuting from West Loop.

When I commuted from Lincoln Park, on the north end at diversey between LP and LV, I would pass Oak Brook within the first 45 minutes of my morning commute. Even from those areas a 45 minute commute is very possible.

My screenshot/map directions was from the Loop BTW, not West Loop.

Fair enough. You mentioned West Loop in your post. I didn’t click on the link. I was speaking from my past experience living in Lakeview. It’s not impossible to do, but it depends where you live in those neighborhoods and what time you leave.
