"entirely suburban": which makes one wonder. Suburban Chicago is one of the best suburban areas in the nation...and its having access to Chicago and all that Chicago has to offer is a huge part of this.

Who knows, Vlajos, maybe these suburbanites hate Chicago because all their kids want to and do leave home and move there after college.

As for your au pairs comment, maybe we need to think of what you wrote there as being "ho hum" category, as in "well, why wouldn't they. I'd hardly expect anything different."

I have rarely experienced that frequency of train delays/stoppages in Chicago, so perhaps Chicago public transportation is more dependable? Or do I just have bad luck with the NYC subway?
NY subways & buses are old and horrible like Chicago’s. Not saying that NY’s are better. Chicago platforms seemed cleaner still.

I was in NYC this summer. I’ve never been to Chicago. Are the trains similar? The newer trains had a map that lit up the station that you’re at and are in a line of the next and past stations. I was praying for a new train so I wouldn’t get lost.

A term that seems to have been invented on Phillyblog by those who just moved to Philadelphia and can't seem to understand why the long-time residents have such a dismal outlook about the city's future." What to do about the term?

But really more about locals themselves among themselves who spew negatives..... Sound familiar...
Originally though it was a local mocking ther local spots team too. Just grew to include more.

Maybe these posters feel like this comment I read here on Philly?..????? By these in need to vent to VISITOR FEEDBACK POST IN COMPLEMENTING A VISIT .... Yet the post negatives....

-- What are the downsides of living in Philadelphia, PA? -- MAYBE THEY WOULD INTERJECT CHICAGO IN THE BELOW POST. THE MOCKERS who see all half full and dropping.

One post from link:

1.With all of the negatives below along with higher income taxes (as mentioned) … here is the biggest downside/upside I've experienced:

-- "Philly love"— Philly can just grow on you to the point where you don't feel uncomfortable everywhere else. It's like that relationship that was never that good, but you know each other's moves so well that you stay together longer than you should— you know it isn't good for you anymore but you just can't say goodbye and you begin to make excuses for not leaving or for coming back — Philly makes you always feel like you belong there.

I LOVE CHICAGO THOUGH. But near retirement. Probably will never live there again. But I'D LOVE TO.
**** But some DON'T EVEN MAKE EXCUSES ..... they just BASH THE CITY. Most FORMER residents with a GRUDGE.
Hmm, another diversion to philly. Interesting. What do expect from a city like Philly run by socialists? Wait until Chicago’s next mayor takes over; socialist or one of those ‘reverends’.

Also, someone can visit a lot cities for a few days and love it.

I love the diverse architecture, the beautiful skyscrapers and its density, how super clean and well maintained the city is, all the amenities and plenty things to see/do and friendly people! Shopping is excellent in this city - better than New York City! You have basically every single chain and non-chain stores, restaurants and department stores as well as shopping malls. In New York City you must go to the suburbs for certain chain stores, restaurants and bigger malls unlike in Chicago all in the city center! Things were reasonable prices.

Christkindlmarket was amazing! Feels like being at a Christmas market in Europe! Magnificient Mile, Michigan Ave, State St, etc. great streets! The area by Trump tower was extra beautiful with the river and architectural view. Lake Michigan and Willis tower nice view as well. I liked the Christmas lights and decorations everywhere nicely done. Chicago’s shopping streets is much nicer and cleaner than New York’s Fifth Ave to be honest. Chicago’s grid locked streets were easy to navigate.
Only thing that should have improved in Chicago is to have nicer bridges and nicer/newer public transportation (buses & trains).

Overall Chicago is one of my favorite cities... very nice loved it! I’ll be honest I like Chicago more than New York. New York is too congested and too dirty!
Wow, you’ve hit the jackpot here by stating you like Chicago over New York lol. I guess Chicago has “bridges”, I just never considered them a big deal given that they are not large.

New York also does not have alleys, so the garbage is in front of buildings and makes things look dirty, imo. I grew up near (not in) NYC and dh and I moved to Chicago when were were newly married (for his new job). Lived in Evanston for over 30 years and loved the access to the city as well as the general walkability of Evanston.

Chicago is much cleaner than NY.

I did find Chicago's people to walk too slow when we first moved here though since I was used to the East Coast pace.

obviously true. But think of all those photos out there of looking north from Wacker Drive with the Wrigley Bldg and Trib Tower ahead....and the Michigan Avenue Bridge prominently placed. That's a pretty iconic sight.

The diversion came by lessening Chicago. When you chose Philly to move too and never complement things there either. Why choose it to move if you see it as negatively too as a negadephian..... apparently. Not in the sports teams sense either.

If you see Philly and Chi as already socialist. What worst do you expect from a new mayor too ......

Just a bit hypocritical to lessen Chicago so much. I remember your post many months ago too.

True. I cannot get enough of looking west from the Wells Street bridge with all the new buildings that have been built in the area where the 3 branches of the river meet.

There simply is no place on earth where a river passes through a man made canyon like Chicago. That that canyon's walls are made up of some of the best architecture to be found anywhere only enhances the effect. It is unique.

And all the development going on at Wolf Point and across the river north of Ogilvie finally are putting in place that "back wall" that makes the view even better.
