We are a family moving from the suburbs into the city and are looking at Montrose and Clarendon intersection in Uptown. Any thoughts on safety? I know Uptown has it's problems, but it seems like its further west based on the preliminary research I did on the web. We really like the proximity to the dog park and the Montrose dog beach.

We're looking at the EightEleven apartments - they seem to be a bit over-priced, but look really nice - at least on the surface. Any thoughts on either the area or EightEleven apartments would be very welcome.

Thanks,

ChiTown2019

I lived in that hi rise right on that corner in the early 90s. We did have too deal with some things like people making threats once in a while and a friend of mine was attacked. I guess the area is a tiny bit better now than then but there is still some bad stuff that goes on in uptown including a couple of shootings. They also tore down the hospital on the corner and built a new hi-rise so the area is trying to improve but it is going VERY slowly.

Check the BedBug Report for any addresses in that part of the city.

The kids will probably get a kick out of the massive model train room in the Clarendon community center not far from the EightEleven. Saw it earlier today.

I wasn’t going to say it, but yes. That is a must.

Probably good advice any time you're moving anywhere.

Along Montrose personally I would stay west of Clark, but plenty will tell you it’s fine.

I would check out the Uptown Update and Uptown Neighborhood Watch group on Facebook for a better sense of safety/community. I would err on the side of nope; however, I lived a bit north of there and was a victim of crime so my perspective is skewed. Truman seems to have a healthy amount of issues as well.

Buena Park is beautiful and safe-its the south end of Uptown. Its a nice little secret

Drive south on N. Sheridan Road til 4000 North - turn west on Buena by the big Catholic Church (Has a top rated grammar school).

There is a nice little playlot park there- just drive around the area.
Just east of there is a Public Library and about 5 blocks east is an entrance to Lincoln Park and the 18 mile path.
Lake Michigan is just behind for golf course.
