Thanks so much @Ditto97. We are not wedded to the IB program...so our options are open. Will work on narrowing down the suburbs! Thanks again!

Of course! I would highly recommend checking out the current homes for sale in the areas in which you're interested in residing. It will provide an overview on what's available, and what may become available.

It might be beneficial to join Facebook groups that are specific to each town or neighborhood. Normally, I'd also recommend driving through each town in order to see if you could picture yourself living there, but that might be hard to do from Toronto.

If you are not wedded to IB, Evanston Township High school has a fantastic stem program for kids who qualify.

My son went through the Chem-Phys program and when he went off to college, he discovered just how good it had been. He went to Washington University in St. Louis for his chemical engineering degree and came back to Northwestern for his Masters program. He went to this reunion recently:

Is the ETHS program unique in the way it is structured? I mean are there other high schools that have created any sort of STEM four-way interconnections and instead teach each discipline separately?

I would suggest adding Glenview and perhaps Northbrook to the list for access to ORD, transportation, schools and diversity.

It was unique when it was created and I don't know of any other schools that have it. It has won many awards.

Chemistry / Physics Program at Evanston Township High School was designed in 1952 to provide the most advanced and motivated science students with a challenging college-preparatory science experience. This is a demanding and rigorous study of physical science and mathematics that extends over a 3-year period, beginning in 10th grade. During this year, students take a full year of combined high school honors chemistry and physics at an accelerated pace. In grades 11 and 12, students take college-level chemistry and calculus-based physics during alternating semesters. Until recently, most students in this program would also take calculus (advanced placement Calculus BC) and advanced multivariable calculus during this time.

My son did take BC Calc and multivariable calc in this program. Some of his peers were taking courses at Northwestern University because they were beyond anything that was taught at the high school.

Learning experiences are organized around concepts rather than by subject.

Will you both qualify for HB1?

If one looses the US position then you both may need to go back

Plus some employers can really bust one’s *alls as they have the hammer to end your position and you will have to go back

Be careful

Good luck

It might not be worth the ball-busting stress as an HB1 for a 500-mile move. You would have to start anew in another country and take a chance that it could be temporary or permanent (can you eventually land permanent residency as an H1B?). The moving costs would be exorbitant and the payback could be negative (being forced to move back).

There is a backlog for Mexicans, Indians, and Filipinos right now. If you aren't Canadian, Indians have a long wait!

The Canadian economy seems to be doing okay, compared to Europe and Australia/New Zealand. There is a lot of uncertainty in the U.S. right now (as you may well know with U.S. television widely available on cable) due to Trump's erratic decision making from China relations to immigration regulations.

What's prompting you to move to the U.S.? Have you considered Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton? If you still want to move to the U.S., it might be better when a new president takes over. So you could prepare now and take a chance that Trump doesn't get re-elected in 2020 and an immigrant-friendly Democrat takes over in 2021.

Of course, you will no longer have the national health system, but you knew that. Some suggested Lincolnshire. Probably not a bad choice, it's in the popular Stevenson HS District. And if your flight schedule permits, you could even take the train to OHare.
