Nice looking building! I'd like to see the L component pushed back so it's only two stories all along Randolph but not a huge deal since doesn't span whole building.

On the flip side the new development Old Town Park is 60% occupied and offering 3 months free rent (4 if you count the commission to agents). These developers in West Loop are in for a rude awakening. On the other flip side the agent I talked to did help two people move from New York and San Fran recently so that will be the tide that fills these buildings.

That's good news to hear from the agent you spoke with. I've always said that Chicago should be aggressively recruiting disgruntled NY'ers and San Franciscans who are looking for a comparable urban metropolis but at half the price. No other city comes close to offering the expanse of contiguous urban intensity that Chicago provides. We also offer international influence in the traditional professional careers NY is noted for. Brokers/markets, marketing/advertising/law/banking/insurance etc. and tech here is burgeoning, representing a larger percentage of the GDP each passing year.

Chicago is at the forefront of the ever growing Quantum Networks/Internet research industry. We have the highest rate of returns on our startups and quite a few unicorns that have been successful after going public. Droves of scientists and engineers will be needed with the massive coordinated effort of the state, universities and U.S. government to deliver quantum initiates. Hyde Park specifically will eventually be the epicenter of the field. That potential is limitless and comparable to the foundation of early Silicon Valley.

917 Fulton - 10 Stories - 154'

Zoning App filed for this infill project for the surface lot across from Time Out Market. Great urban upgrade that builds out lot-line-to-lot-line like only Fulton Market does but sadly more faux historic warehouse architecture.

Wanted to capture a few small updates.. this is not close to an exhaustive list, but thought these would hold us over.

23 Sangamon breaking ground in 12 months

1440 W Randolph taking off (is this still West Loop or too far?)

1400 W Randolph (also far part of WL but being developed this year)

800 Lake site demo'd a week or two ago

160 Elizabeth proposal looks fine

1400 Monroe is halfway up (again, admittedly far part of WL)

Excavation work going well at 1045 Fulton

I like this project on Racine

166 Abe is starting excavation

Nice Update OKParker.

23 Sangamon is unfortunate. I knew there would be scale backs and height reductions but to go from a two-tower development of 330' and 300' to a single 238' tower just illustrates the chokehold that residents and aldermen have on our neighborhoods.

Here is the lack of ambition and long-term vision on behalf of the developers and the irrational fear of height and density on behalf of residents and aldermen on full display.

Not exactly "West Loop" news but it will impact the neighborhood. Hopefully this will bring development further west from Fulton Market and T.OD. to the United Center wasteland.

Perkins & Will raised the bar with the design of the new Damen Green Line Station. Plans are to break ground this summer and take 24 months to complete.

This was set to open in 2021....so only two years behind. Not sure why it's taking so long.

After this and red/brown/purple flyover CTA should pause any new developments. Need for daily public transpo and downtown office life will diminish greatly.

Ironically rather than slowing down they are building 4 new/completely-revitalized Red Line Stations at Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr. Breaking ground this spring and will be completed in 2024.

One of my ultimate wishes was for the CTA to adopt the Circle Line Phase 3 plan to link Ashland/Lake to North/Clybourn with a new subterranean subway line. That will never happen. I would love to see a modernization plan provide underground rail for Lincoln Park-Gold Coast-Streeterville-Lakeshore East-Museum-Campus-Soldier-Field-McCormick and out to the Bronzeville East development (Michael Reese) and then an elevated line to UChicago/Obama Presidential Center. Unfortunately this would never happen either. That type of generational investment would be a major boon for the economy with such increased coverage/connectivity.
