Nearwest, being of Mexican and Croatian descent, I get taken for Italian sometimes! I'm familiar with Grand Avenue. I believe I had pizza at Salerno's a year or 2 ago. I never checked out the delis there yet! It's on my to-do list Gratzie, paisan! Master Jay in Milwaukee

fusillrob1983, GOOD CALL!! And you get 2 points, since there is one on Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling, too! But keeping it real: I am NOT a fan of them using green tomatoes! And being a Milwaukeean, you KNOW I put ketchup on my hot dogs!!! Have a great day, and thanks for sharing!- Master Jay in Milwaukee

All good. I put neither tomatoes nor ketchup on my hot dogs.

Jay, not much of a fan of the green tomato either. And I remove them before eating. Interesting since the one in the city goes way back in time, it’s the Wheeling one I prefer due to the nostalgic theming of a 1950s drive in

And Jay, here is a shout out tailor made for you (as opposed to one Taylor made for you which would come with a plate of pasta and some Italian ice)

Back when CTA lines were colorless and trains ran on dirt with Flintstone wheels an long before thcurrent blue line was extended from Logan Square to O’Hare, it was rhe Milwaukee Congress and Milwaukee Douglas trains that ran through the Dearborn Subway (While overhead of them on the loop el tracks, North Shore trains ran up to the real Milwaukee)

edsg25, yes the Wheeling restaurant does have it's charm. WHAT is with green tomatoes, though???? I appreciate the history lessons as always, and it's good to know Milwaukee was mentioned in your trains!... And I WILL happily accept a TAYLOR-made shout out. I do love the Rosebud there!- Master Jay in Milwaukee

Jay, I am old enough to remember when Rosebud was just another (but still very good) Taylor Street restaurant, a single location. Old enough, I think, to remember seeing Citizen Kane at the next table

If I had an uncontrolable urge for Fried Green Tomatoes, I’d go to the famous Galena restaurant by that name, not to Superawg for a hot dog

LOL, I'm very anti-tomato slice and I like ketchup with fries but that's the extent of my ketchup usage. I eat tomatoes/tomato based products in almost all other situations. I'll keep from further hijacking this thread.
