Taylor Street has a pretty good stretch of shops running from Morgan west to Ashland, but there's a small, but very noticeable break from Racine to Ada. It seems like the full stretch could be one of the most attractive neighborhood commercial strips in the city and with people from UIC and the Medical District feeding into it, so it's odd that these places after the buildings there were demolished have remained empty. Just west of Ada Street's seen the development of a new and sizable public library, but what's slated for the rest of the empty parcels between Racine to Ada and what's going to happen to the remaining Jane Addams Home on Ada and Taylor?

I live close to Taylor St. on the Near West Side and frequently use the new Little Italy public library branch.

The remaining building of the Jane Addams Homes is to become The National Public Housing Museum. This was approved over a dozen years ago after the other buildings in that complex were razed. However, nothing has been done, except the erection of a banner announcing this renovation on the building. Supposedly, if and when this is finally accomplished, the remaining vacant land will be utilized as public green spaces for the museum.
