Never lived in the city proper but have spent all my life living in the Chicagoland suburbs. My parents spent all their lives in Chicago and its burbs. I wanted to move someplace warmer but husband's job tied him here. We're out in the DuPage county area.

I can recommend 2 books regarding the West Side which are available from the Chicago Public Library.

One is "Block by Block", written by Amanda Seligman. The author traces decay and public policy on the West Side from the late 1940s until roughly 1970. There is a chapter in her book devoted to efforts of West Garfield Park residents to stem racial change in the early 1960s.

The other book is "Redlined". its author is Linda Gartz. She's a local writer and television producer who grew up in West Garfield Park. She writes of her parents decision to remain in that neighborhood, after racial transition began about 1963.

I met Linda at a book signing event.

All but a couple of years in total. Born here to parents who came from other states.

I've lived in the Chicago metro for all of my life except three years in California. One side of the family has been here since the 1880s. Lots of family lore is tied up with the city.

I have lived in Chicago or its suburbs all my life. Never lived anywhere else. I've lived in the city and in the north suburbs, the near northwest suburbs, and the western suburbs.

I lived in Chicago (Hyde Park) from ages 0-28, away from Chicago for ages 28-48, then back in Chicago (Beverly) since then (10 years).

I’ve lived in Chicago or surrounding suburbs except for about 9mo when I lived in Charlotte, NC. My family on my mother’s side has lived in Chicago since 1908.

I'm 50.

I lived in the Chicago suburbs for 40.
I've lived in the city now for 2 years.

4 years out of state for college and lived out west for 2 years.

My dad was born and raised on the south side of Chicago (Roseland). Mom is from elsewhere.
