Reminds me of South Asians living in Harvey. They're taking advantage of cheap housing.

For latinos, Englewood is super affordable as well, plus Chicago Lawn and New City are the next neighborhoods over, so there is spill over.

I'm making a list of things I like and don't like about the many neighborhoods for myself before I move, but I want to know about neighborhoods that I shouldn't even bother, either because of the crime or because of some other reason. Can you guys rattle off some of these no-go neighborhoods?
I wouldn't live in neighborhoods that aren't served by the 'L', (by which I essentially mean any part of the city more than a 15 minute walk from the nearest 'L' station) even if you paid me, simply because I consider rail transit an essential part of the urban experience. Likewise, I'd personally avoid places that were more than 45 minutes from downtown by rail simply because I want to be able to get around the city so that I can use the city and experience the city.

So right there, that eliminates a vast swath of the City.

emathias, that is a very good answer... very logical and practical, good Sir... Personally, from all my visits, I'd rather live in most community areas that touch the border of Chicago with its suburbs. I'd like that urban/suburban feel. But that's just ME. Plus, I don't mind having my car, and being able to use bus or El train periodically Happy New Year!

Having children (Black) most of the city I’d avoid. I would live in some pretty crummy areas if it were just me.

noid_1985, you're in Galewood? That's actually a favorite neighborhood of mine. I like the park/library you have! Happy New Year!

I can only speak on my experiences of places I've actually been. But I believe Galewood is considered West side, and it has always seemed like a decent area. And on the south side, there is a nice area of Armour Square south of Chinatown and north of Cellular Field. And also Little Italy is a nice area. Am I wrong in my analyses of these areas? Are they not relatively clean, safe, and worthy of taking away from the stigma of West and South sides being unbearable in Chicago?
