Everyone always asks about the best neighborhoods to rent, but I want to know, what places would you avoid and wouldn't live in even if someone paid you?

I'm making a list of things I like and don't like about the many neighborhoods for myself before I move, but I want to know about neighborhoods that I shouldn't even bother, either because of the crime or because of some other reason. Can you guys rattle off some of these no-go neighborhoods?

It depends how much i'm getting paid to live there and for how long. But of course.. some areas are always going to be a no no. Englewood for example. Money is not worth mine or my family's safety.

This is Chicago. You need to identify which demographic group you are asking this question to!

Go here and click on the different Community areas and look at the demographics.

It'll become very clear to you which neighborhoods certain racial groups avoid. My guess is that this board is majority-white, so most of the neighborhoods they are avoiding are African-American and Hispanic neighborhoods (though a few of the latter are gentrifying).

This thread isn't going to end well. I don't know what point it serves other than poverty gawking or punching down on neighborhoods other people consider home

I would not go to any neighborhood that I would make someone uncomfortable for me to be there, that would cause me to not be welcome, so I'd avoid that one. I'd avoid a neighborhood where I would not fit in with the culture, and would feel like i infiltrated where i did not fit in. I'd avoid a neighborhood where I could not afford it either.

This could be many factors, including too rich neighborhood. I once attended a church in a wealthy suburb. Nice people, however, I did not fit in. The one lady made an announcement that their weekly Bible study was going to be at the country club out there. Wow! I never heard of that kind of place for a Bible study. Therefore, i did not feel like i fit in and therefore, didn't continue going. So imagine living in an area where i would feel like i did not fit in, so that is how i feel about that.

I believe in looking at life in a POSITIVE perspective. Therefore, I believe it would be more important to pose the question: What neighborhoods would you SEEK to live in, and why?... and you will find many recent threads on this

Yea, it's kind of like those stupid "worst restaurants in America," "worst cars of all time" and "you won't believe what they look like now!" things. All that's missing is the slideshow, pop up ads, and spyware that downloads onto your smartphone.

The answer to this question is painfully obvious to anyone who knows the area, so there's little purpose in gawking over it.

Curious though, I recently read an article that stated Latinos are moving into Englewood & West Englewood's northern border area.

Maybe they're getting out priced from Bridgeport and McKinley Park.
