Hello All,

My partner and I are in the throes of moving and are seeking advice on an unfamiliar part of the city.

Generally speaking, is the Lathrop Homes area safe? We are specifically looking at the N Clybourn stretch across from the restored homes.

We have a dog and would like to feel safe at night coming and going from the apartment. Thanks so much in advance!

It’s the periphery of a relatively safe area east of Clybourn and a slightly sketchier but far from the worst area around Lathrop and to the North/Northwest. South and Southwest is kind of cut off by the river. I would not live there myself by choice but that has as much to do with a lack of close things to walk to and distance to the trains as it does safety. If you can find your way a little bit East or North you’ll be a bit better off for safety and definitely better off for walkable things to do. The area is on two bus lines and has relatively convenient freeway and shopping access though.

The area east of Clybourn north of Diversey is generally OK and is where your dog would likely be walked, although there was a shooting by Hamlin Park a while back. (This was quite unusual)
