K, so I am taking a work transfer to Chicago for August. Not worried about crime, as Houston is far more dangerous. What I am worried about is something much more important....My social life.

Here is what I am looking for. 30-something area (not a "college town", or for the newly legal), with a lot of local hot spots, pubs. Easy access to the El. I do not want to live where everything shuts down at 5pm. Looking to rent for about $1500/mo. I don't need parking spaces etc. Hmmm, can't think of anything else at this very second, so I will edit if I do.

PS, I am a single female. I lwould like a clean apt with professional, yet down to earth type of neighbors. Would rather stay out of Sect 8 housing.

So, neighborhood/apt suggestions very much appreciated.

Thx

Lincoln Square, Roscoe Village and Andersonville. Those are the more "grown-up" social areas of town. All have access to the an L line with varying degrees of ease; the Brown Line runs right through the heart of Lincoln Square and the eastern edge of Roscoe Village; the Red Line is a couple blocks away from Andersonville -- it's an easy walk from the east edge of Andersonville and a longer walk from the west edge. $1500 will get you up to a 3-bedroom in any of the three neighborhoods. You could probably go all the way down to $1000/mo and still be quite comfortable unless you have a lot of "stuff."

Well most single 30-something females tend to be on the hunt for the 50-something wealthy male. :-0

Riiiiggghhht.....in their dreams (the 50 year old men dreaming not the ladies), and of most young men who think they will still have a chance with 30 year old women when they are 50. Gross.

just curious, but maybe it will help too for others to narrow down what you want...

What do you think or hope will be better about Chicago than Houston, besides crime?
