Foreigner moving to Chicago after graduation? (crime, university, safer)

Hi , guys , my name is Delcho Slavov and I am bulgarian student in the faculty of Engineering & Computing in Coventry University in the UK. My course is Automotive-engineering and I just finished the first year.
I was thinking to move to the USA , specifically Chicago after my graduation. I see there are plenty of engineering jobs offered on a various sites.
I am just so confused about the immigration procedure , simply because there's so much info , but it's so inaccurate and not straightforward at all.

So , I can apply for a job in there and then the employer will provide me a working VISA? Do I need to apply for a green card , and if yes - how?

I heard that it's safer to stay away from the west and south parts of the city as well, because of crime stuff.

Also , how's the thing about the rents, I've noticed flats for 500-700$ , but how's the overall life there like food and all that stuff.

I just really want to contribute the society and I am able to do whatever it takes to make my dream come true.
I don't want information just like that , a few links with the right information would do the work.
