Illinois residents are fleeing the state. When people leave, they take their purchasing power, entrepreneurial activity and taxable income with them. For more than 15 years, residents have left Illinois at a rate of one person every 10 minutes.

Recent data from the Internal Revenue Service shows that, in 2009, Illinois netted a loss of people to 43 states, including each of its neighbors – Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky and Iowa. Over the course of the entire year, the state saw a net of 40,000 people leave Illinois for another state.

The data reflects a continuation of a trend of out-migration from Illinois that has lasted more than a decade. Between 1995 and 2009, the state lost on a net basis more than 806,000 people to out-migration.

When people leave, they take their income and their talent with them. In 2009 alone, Illinois lost residents who took with them a net of $1.5 billion in taxable income. From 1995 to 2009, Illinois lost out on a net of $26 billion in taxable income to out-migration.

This won't end well, smart people are moving somewhere else. It's getting worse everyday.

As I said earlier, yes. Downtown is completely normal now.

Hey Master Jay, good to hear from you.

I've only gone as far north as Edgewater. There was some disturbances in Andersonville and Uptown the weekend of May 30th. However, things have largely returned to normal. You might still see storefronts with wooden boards to protect their windows, but that's about it. I don't have much information nor have I spent much time in Rogers Park so I'm unaware of their situation. But Uptown, Andersonville, and Edgewater seem to be in decent shape.

On a side note, protests in Wrigleyville and Boystown happened over the weekend and they were very peaceful. Always great to see people exercising their right to protest in a peaceful manner. I attended the Wrigleyville protest as well as the Boystown drag march and everything seemed in order.

Hello japster28. It's a beautiful day! I reached out to some people from Edison Park and Lincoln Square on the north side, and to one on Heart of Italy neighborhood on the south. It sounds like they were ok in this . I offered them to call me if they wanted me to come down, but I'm glad to hear they did alright. I feel very bad for all the damage that others suffered.

Usually I make it down for the Pride Parade. The last I heard it was postponed until September. Well, they said that about my town's Summerfest at first, too. But now it's canceled completely. ;(

I've been thinking of going to Wisconsin. but not sure about any where to live. Not sure what areas are safer, etc.. Rents are DEFINITELY LOWER! and I think they are conservative. I don't think they have stupid politics like we have in Illinois plus taxes lower in Wisconsin.
