Hello. I am moving to Chicago from Los Angeles very soon in June. One of the things I will miss is the flower district in downtown l.a. --- where various plant and flower growers sell their merchandise at incredibly low prices. This event attracts hundreds of people each week and weekend. I am wondering if there is anything comparable to this in the city and if so, where?

I just moved here from Los Angeles too, four months ago. The flower market was one of the many things that I said I was going to miss. Did you ever find one here?

Unfortunately, no. Looks like it's the standard garden centers at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. around here.

there's no farmers market style gathering but there are way more options then home depot. there are some great local garden shops like the one on Grand near Leavitt and the huge one on Elston in Old Irving.

Fortini & Son - Irving Park - Chicago, IL

Grand Street Gardens - Near West Side - Chicago, IL

ETA: North Park Nature Center (on Pulaski and Foster) also has plant fairs in the summer months. The sell local overgrowth at rock bottom prices and welcome local vendors in to sell flowers. Maybe some of the long time city residents would know if the parks district do a similar program to give away plants indigenous to the region to slow the encroachment of predatory plant life.

I do believe there are many flower sellers at the Daley Plaza Farmers Market which runs May to October. I do not know the exact dates for this coming season.

Yeah, since we have to deal with actual seasons here, we can't really have a year-round flower market, but many of the seasonal farmers markets do have flowers for sale - probably still nothing like the Flower District in LA and certainly nothing like Pike Place in Seattle, but prettier than Home Depot.

I mentioned this place in another thread today. I have only been there a few times-if I remember right I think they have a decent number of flowers. How cheap they are I do not know.
