Master Jay:

You're referring to the 'Rock 'N' Roll' McDonald's. It was located at 600 N. Clark St. at Ohio St.

It opened in the early 1980s and during the 1990s, it was the highest volume McDonald's restaurant in the USA.

The 2018 redesign of this restaurant doesn't have a rock 'n' roll theme, but it's considered to be McDonald's flagship location in the Chicago market.

Nearwest, that's the one. I remember all the oldies but goodies-themed things in there. I have a picture of me in there when I was about 15 or 16.

That is a national chain, so not too surprising. Although I feel bad, this is a touristy place, that very few Chicagoans I know went to. This is definitely not one I will miss.

Here is the new Fall and Winter dining guidance for Chicago. According to this article more than 50 restaurants have permanently closed due to covid but there's not a list.

I'm hoping for a cold dry winter so restaurants can do Apres Skis style dining. Just put out a ton of heatlamps and tables and temporary wall structures like alternating wood slats to block any wind. Then keep these ped malls open all winter.

Yeah, it's definitely touristy and all but the it just seemed like a fixture in that part of River North for the funky design and giant frog on the outside. I'm surprised how long it's lasted there all these years. There has always been a lot of tacky eateries in that area over the years; R n' R McD's, Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, Ed Debevics, Portillo's etc.

I wouldn't throw Portillo's with the rest of them. That is pretty universally popular Chicago establishment.

Actually there are 3 in Wisconsin. Two in the Milwaukee area and 1 in Madison. We stopped at the one in Madison in August. It's good for Wisconsin to get my fix but when in Chicago there are a lot of other places I go for a dawg, I like the mom and pop places the best.
