Can't wait to see how lightfoot handles this. After threatening to withhold pay if they didn't show up for work she can hardly back down now. Going to be interesting.

Can we just abolish these public employee unions? They are here holding the city and parents hostage. You can't speak out against them or your child will feel it in the classroom. The pols suck up to them for campaign donations and support and the taxpayers suffer as do the students. Something needs to be done.

Abolishing public schools or offering school choice would be preferred.

Private schools have been open all year. No issues. Get the kids and teachers back in schools!

"Chicago students who have returned to the classrooms in these parochial and private schools, have actually had a lower rate of COVID, about half the rate detected than their counterparts in the community....The data shows us that when the proper precautions are taken, transmission in these settings is rare....Contrary to what health officials feared earlier this year, several studies have found that with proper precautions in place, daycares and schools haven't been a significant source of COVID-19 transmission...Where we have seen multiple cases at a school, for example, it is most commonly because siblings attend that school," Arwady said. "We've seen much higher rates of spread in settings outside of schools."

The city missed their chance to do a Reagan, fire them all ( ie:the FTCs) , years ago. The CTU has become too powerful and are running the show!

Public schools have there place, but school choice is a no brainer, especially with the woke SJW teaching going on.

And if they get their way and have an 'elected' school board they will be running the whole city.

Agreed, especially in a climate where we rely on unconstitutional property tax based educational funding, which creates laughable funding disparities between rich and poor districts. Anyway, now would be a great time to check the CTU's power. We'll see if the City and maybe even Springfield have the stones. They just teed off pretty good on police unions. Let's see if they will also do it to the teachers unions.

This is Illinois. Teachers unions are huge supporters of leftist pols. Nothing will happen to reduce those unions power and the incestuous relationship they have with Democrats.
