Before Covid, the train was always full. During summer when I was taking it to/from work at different hours, it was practically empty and kind of scary to be on. How are the loads now? Has it gotten better? Are trains getting full again? I haven't worked for months now but am going back in March. Thanks!

Took an early morning ride to Ohare in late January. It was mostly empty. There were homeless people sleeping overnight, a guy smoking in one of the cars, and overall a pretty creepy experience with odd characters everywhere. And I used to take the blue line to/from Ohare every week for flights. Maybe it's better during middle of the day...

Trains are still pretty empty. I’m guessing there will be a gradual uptick in ridership from late spring to fall. Come fall, there is a good chance that you could see the trains look somewhat like they used to.

Those homeless and others were on public transport before Covid. They just blended into the crowds.

Ok, thanks! That's how it was in summer. It was scary taking the train. Now, Uber and Lyft are so expensive to take and no ride sharing options to make it cheaper. This whole thing sucks. They need to clean up the CTA so people can feel safe being on it at different hours of the day/night.

I wonder if/how other large mass transit (specifically, rail) systems successfully address issues of security. Is anyone doing a brilliant job of it?

I imagine Singapore and Tokyo are always relatively more secure as part of a low-crime culture. But I guess I should have asked about US systems specifically. Is Chicago's CTA worse than MBTA, MTA, WMATA, BART, SEPTA etc.? Have they done a better job addressing security, and if so, how?
