...This wasn’t the first time Giangreco has gotten into trouble for something he said....

It’s just so sad and crazy. Fired after 26 years for a comment some people were offended by.

Mark is an old-school Chicagoan. Sad to see him gone. You have to be super careful nowadays, and the comment was inappropriate as a joke on-air, so I wouldn’t have minded a suspension. But he seems to have genuinely meant it as a joke. A one and done firing is excessive. They should have suspended him and let it be a lesson. It’s even more sad because they’ve been co-workers and friends for years. He just made a mistake.

Slightly unrelated to the post, but same general topic- for this very reason, I don’t ever even joke around with co-workers, even at happy hours. With friends I obviously will, but I am super cautious about with co-workers. I will never say anything controversial even as a joke. You never know nowadays how someone could misinterpret it.

I assume other things were going on behind the scenes. At the same time, it wouldn't surprise me if Cheryl Burton is just hot tempered and took advantage of the current climate. I don't think most people would have been offended if it was just a one off.

A nit pik, though he's been here awhile, he's not a Chicagoan. He's born and raised in New York.

It wasn't some people, it was one person.

I couldn't care less about Mark Giangreco, as I don't care about sports news in general. What I do care about, is holding the hypersensitive woke idiots responsible. So, I won't be turning on Channel 7 news anymore, there are plenty of other options. "Ditzy" means scatterbrained, doesn't it? Obviously meant as a joke. So, F 'em if they can't take a joke, I know I will.

It was fun when Mark would mess with Jerry Taft. Now one is dead and the other is cancelled.

He's made several comments in the past that have gotten him into trouble. I'm certainly not for cancel culture and think the firing was extreme, but that's how it is now. I would sure hate to be a stand-up comedian in these times.
