I’ve been to Chicago a few times and am aware of just how huge Union Station is. It seems to be a couple of buildings that span a few streets. I’d like to be able to locate an exit door that brings me to a spot where I can most easily get on West Monroe to walk over to the Gray Kimpton, across the River. Thank you!

The Gray Kimpton is a new hotel in the West Loop on Monroe. Union Station is between Adams St & Jackson Boulevard at Canal St. From the station walk east & cross the Chicago River. There is a nice riverside walk. Monroe is next block north from Adams, 2 blocks from Jackson.

Depending on how much luggage you have and how you feel about stairs and what direction you're arriving into Union Station from, the best answer will vary.

In general, the biggest exists, with escalators, both exit onto the western riverwalk, one at Adams, one at Jackson. For your needs, Adams works best. If you come from north of Chicago, you could also walk north along the platform you detrain at, and you can take stairs up to Madison Street, which is 1 block north of Monroe, but it's all stairs, no escalators.

If you can't handle those stairs (memory says it 2-3 flights straight up) you can exit onto Adams Street turn left off the escalator and cross Adams Street and continue straight across the plaza of 120 S. Riverside Plaza between Adams and Monroe and then cross the river if you need to.
