It's a contest between LA or Chicago. I just don't like NYC.

Toss up between NYC and Chicago. I'm not a fan of LA. For me though, I like living in Chicago and visiting NYC (the housing costs in nyc are insane, however, I much prefer their subway system to ours). LA can fall into the ocean as far as I'm concerned

Close call for me. I have to give it to Chicago for 3 reasons: a) NYC has little that Chicago doesn't have, NYC just have more of it (does it really matter if you have 1,500 Italian restaurants versus 600?) and Chicago offers it at about a 30% cost-of-living discount; b) lower density but still a thoroughly urban feel; c) easier to get out of town and into the country for a weekend getaway.

Los Angeles isn't even in the running against NYC and Chicago.

Well said. Ditto.

LA cant compare to NYC or Chicago other than in population. Between Chicago and NY, Id pick Chicago. Not just cuz I live in Illinois, but for many reasons. Lower crime, better schools, cheaper housing prices, better skyline, just as many amenities, better suburbs, too much to mention here...

Default i don't think so

um, lower crime in chicago than NYC and Los Angeles???

check the history, homes..

Chicago has had a higher murder rate than both cities for like 15 of the last 16 years, and was the murder capital (highest #) in 03' and a couple years before that as well. Chicago has the largest and oldest gang nation in the WORLD. Please do your research. Do you even live in chicago???

New York, has a crime rate lower than the national average and is now considered a safe city, not just a safe big city, but a safe city. Los Angeles doesn't have near the crime rate of chicago.

there are crime stats on this sight if you didn't know

Yes, Chicago has bounced in and out of that list, but so has NY and LA at times. This year it happened to be St. Louis, not long ago it was D.C...

The low crime is a facad many people use here when they try to compare chicago to the massive megalopolis's of newyork-philly, and southern california. The fact of the matter is most of these people wont admitt, but when they speak of chicago they speak of the loop and everything north and northwest.

cdrobert, that is a true story. The fact of the matter is that the majority of Chicago's serious crime occurs in parts of the south & west sides of the city, and also in some of the southern suburbs. There are pockets of crimes in other parts of the metro as well, but not nearly as much is concentrated as it is in the areas where gang culture, drugs, teen pregnancies & violence are a way of life.
