$200K is dirt cheap and unheard of in any of the costal cities that Chicago is peers with.
Affordability is bad now? LOL

We aren't talking about coastal cities, we're talking about Chicago.

Where in my post that you quoted did I say affordability is bad?
Yes, we are talking about Chicago

Lol 200k (in 2022) for a major city is dirt cheap. It cities 1/3 the size of Chicago that are more expensive than the city.

A lot of those previous named cities are not as segregated as Chicago either! It's always been an issue here (as well as violence) which affects home values. A lot of the Southside flips I've seen have rivaled most Northside homes but, the neighborhood just brings the value down.

Exactly. Where else are you going to find the amenities you find in Chicago for the the prices quoted in this thread? I notice a lot of people who talk about the South still have one foot in IL and/or didn't leave until retirement. Make all the excuses you want. If IL was that terrible, you would have left years ago...WITH your children.

The census apparently undercounted Illinois by almost 300,000 people. Illinois actually has a population over 13,000,000 making it the 5th largest state.

https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/loca...-ever/2837753/

The census didn't break out where in Illinois the undercount was, but certainly Chicago was undercounted too.

Chicago probably has 2.9 million or even 3 million plus people in city limits

Actually surprised there isn’t a thread about this and the other undercounted states in the General US forum.

Because this destroys right wingers favorite point that chicago and illinois are declining sh*tholes and nobody wants to live there. Yet we remain the 5th most populous state and Illinois is set to become the 5th trillion dollar state this year.

I suppose, although several very conservative states were also undercounted. You’d think it would have been a bigger, more-discussed story.
