Happy Holidays Thanksgiving!

I just found out that I can break my apartment lease. The unit has a broken oven, refrigerator, and the oven had an extension cord from the oven, behind the sink to an outlet across the kitchen. There is more, but...

I am a woman considering safety, transportation, things to do e.g. festivals, and meeting single men too.

Safety
Almost no crime. I feel safe walking home at 9pm from the bus stop two blocks away or from Broadway St. because 1. other people are probably walking too. And, here drunk people get mugged normally after 2am. We have some people that sale Streetwise, but no tents on the streets.

For some reason, I do not feel safe jogging and/or listening to ear phones after 7pm. But I see people do that every day. I will not go to the beautiful lake/Lincoln Park after sunset.

Location/Transportation
Where can I walk to grocery stores, businesses, and shopping? I do not need to live by the lake. Sometimes, I jog downtown to buy that addictive popcorn. I like express buses and outdoor Summer activities, the prestige of Lake Shore Dr. or Miracle Mile cost more. I'm good.

I do not drive, and I hate surburbia anyway.

In "East LakeView" you can walk to Trader Joes, Target, Trader Joes, Home Depot, DSW, Marshalls, TJMax, Gap, BananaRepublic and oh so many consignment shops, places to eat and other small businesses on Broadway Ave or Clark St. Wriggley Field and North Halsted was a15 min walk away.

Singles
I am a 40 year old single woman with no kids, and I date men. It would be nice to make friends. Bars aren't important since I do not drink. Hell, I can only eat muffins sometime. I had fun and danced in North Halsted, but we all know that wasn't about meeting a man.

I date men. Men who date women sometimes ask me out on Diversey St, but not in most Lakeview.

Price
Under 1600.
An Elevator, laundry on site, and a controlled entrance e.g. fob or entry key. I do not need a doorman.
My rent is $985 without electricity and the heat is electric from the air conditioning unit. The really total will probably be $1200-1300.

But I will leave East LakeView! My great location has some slums for $1300 or renovated buidings for $2,500.

I know that this exist. If East LakeView has so much energy and places to go, other neighborhoods have it too.

Jae

I don't see this getting any responses because it is pretty incoherent and only contains one question: "Where can I walk to grocery stores, businesses, and shopping?"

To answer your only question, most north side and near west neighborhoods are highly walkable.

Gold Coast - Look up BJB properties. They have some units that fit in your budget and would put you near the action. Men that date women are literally everywhere in Chicago. Shouldn't have a problem there.

Happy hunting.

The OP likely already knows this, so not sure I’m adding much, but I would look just south in Lincoln Park. It pretty much has all you are asking for. Gold Coast or Old Town would be options too.

I heard the nicest guys to date are the ones who live in Milwaukee, but spend a lot of time in Illinois.

....

Or, wait... Maybe that was ME I heard say that!
