is Lakeview growing/changing. Are people leaving the area?
I have lived in Lakeview East and still have a place there. Every time I visit it seems like the crowds are getting smaller and smaller.
Is something happening in the area? are people moving out to the suburbs?

No, people aren't leaving the area. East Lakeview has all the same bustle it has alwasy had. I'm not sure why you would think differently...

Major announcement:

The water main running underneath Sheridan between Sheffield and Broadway is going to be replaced. This work needs to be done as the water main is the original pipe from about 1890. There are major problems with water pressure and flooding (as well as water main breaks) in the area so this work is required.I personally applaud the Aldermen and city for making this replacement a priority.

The water department has already moved in some equipment and started work. Parking on Sheridan between Sheffield and Broadway is not allowed at all times of day starting 7/15/08. You will be ticket and/or towed if you park on Sheridan between Sheffield and Broadway. The city says the work should be completed by mid-August (hopefully). The signs on the light poles and trees state no parking until September however...

If you have any questions, concerns, and gripes (which I am sure you do since this project was announced on such a short notice and not very efficiently) please call the offices of the two Alderman that this area is included in:

44th Ward-Tom Tunney (773) 525-6034
and
46th Helen Schiller (773) 878-4646

You can also call the Department of Water at (312) 744-7001 and (312) 744-4426.

If people were moving out, other people would simply move in to take their place. The dwellings won't disappear, as land values are too high for them to decay like in some of the city's worst neighborhoods. Any area with a lot of rentals is going to have a lot of people leaving over time, and also a lot of people arriving.

The parking restrictions have been removed (for now.) I expect they will resume in a week or two when the street is resurfaced and possibly when the old water main is removed (if it is removed.)
