Hi,

After CDWM, Chicago Department of Water Management, replaced the main sewer, they sent a letter to every house around my block offering to replace the underground pipes that connect the water main from the street to the property. They will replace both sides of the B-Box. The letter came with "Right to Entry" paper for home owner to sign. They said that the old waterline has lead. Therefore it's better to let them replace it with a new line. The new water meter will also be installed. They said this free service is worth around $16,000 to $30,000.

This is a legit letter from the city. However I don't know if it would be a good idea to sign up for the line replacement. They would come inside the house and photograph the plumbing and other stuff. What I'm worried about is the new water meter. Our current water meter (installed over 10 years ago) is working just fine. I'm worried that the new one could make the water bill to go higher.

I believe my neighborhood is not the first one to receive this offer. Could anyone who took this offer share your experience? Any opinions are welcome. Thank you.
