Almost every U.S. city is highly, highly segregated. Look at one of the 'racial dot maps' if you don't believe me. (I'm not alleging that non-American cities are integrated; I'm simply addressing U.S. ones, specifically, in this post.)

Chicago getting more flak for this than other cities which are just as segregated is nothing out of the ordinary, though.

Nah, Chicago's segregation is next level. There are plethora of neighborhoods that are literally 90%+ black, white, and hispanic.

Go to Brooklyn. Has around the same population as Chicago. You see whites, blacks, asians, and hispanics are intermingling. You don't see that here.

Starting from 24th and Oakley, it appeared to be predominate Hispanic, with a small percentage of Whites.

Going further east to Pilsen, it was predominate Hispanic, with a small percentage of Whites, also, and actually I have noticed more and more African-Americans in areas of Pilsen, as the years go on.

Going further east, and to the south of Chinatown, which used to appear predominate White, I am seeing more and more Asians in that area, as the years go on.

So I'd have to say the city is looking more blended in areas that didn't always appear so...

I will say tho, this city is "slowly" becoming more integrated, especially on the northside. Maybe in a couple years another city will steal this title from us.

New York (and plenty of other diverse cities) do, also.

I'm not going to debate this further here, though.

I noticed that about NYC. People may not live in the same neighborhood but they certainly hang out together. Walking around Manhattan and Brooklyn and you see a very diverse group of people, not just racially but also nationality. In 5 minutes I heard Spanish, Russian, and French. This doesn't happen in Chicago and if it does its rare.

Pilsen is approximately 1/4th White which is not a majority but certainly not a small fraction.

Nah, you should debate. Because you're wrong.
I'm looking at the map now and NYC and others have plenty of mixing in the fringes of each neighborhood.

Chicago really doesn't.

Chicago's segregation is harmful and very disappointing given how progressive the City has gotten over the past few decades (particularly in the last 10 years). Everyone is clamoring for social justice. They rioted for it in 2020 and they elected a Mayor in 2023 who has promised to deliver it. They elected progressive alderpersons who propose and pass progressive initiatives of all kinds. Yet, neighborhoods like Austin, Englewood, Garfield Park, North Lawndale, and South Shore still stubbornly remain 90%+ Black. These neighborhoods are poor, violent, and account for almost all of our homicides. The five I just named have seen 142 of our 362 homicides this year. The bulk of the rest also occurred in black neighborhoods. 82% of this year's homicide victims are black people. 14% are Hispanic. Only a tiny fraction are white.

This situation will not change with setting police cars on fire and destroying property. It will not change by voting in a progressive Mayor from the safety of Logan Square and Wicker Park. It will not change with a small guaranteed income to a few people. It will change when our segregated and poor communities are integrated and invested in. And don't tell me this will displace residents, because all of these communities are at a small fraction of their pre-decline populations and there is plenty of vacant land to build mixed income and upper income housing. And don't blame redlining because anyone could walk into a bank tomorrow and get a loan on a house in Englewood. They're already doing this in East Garfield Park, but only because everyone thinks it will gentrify of course. A lease would be easier still. Our affluent people have to put their progressive ideals where their mouths are and help get this done. Otherwise, it will persist and we'll just keep talking about it, which is worthless.
