Chicago Public Schools board considers ending selective enrollment, magnet schools

Well, it didn't take Big Johnson long to break this campaign promise. And yet, roughly 0% of the local populace are (or should be) surprised.

If this comes to pass, I expect to have a lot of new neighbors from Chicago.

Johnson is worse than Lightfoot jesus christ. Chicago needs to have a 90s NYC coming to Jesus moment and have the city packed with leaders who take no bull**** and are hard on crime.

Chicago had a chance to elect a tough on crime, no BS mayor and blew it. Paul Vallas knows how to run things and has proven his leadership in every thing he's been involved with. But the teacher's union controls the vote.

Paul vallas had common sense crime fighting strategies that worked (pack the police with trains, make the police proactive, not reactive, get more officers on the beat, etc.) and the northside white liberal transplants chose to elect a crime-defending, tax-hiking socialist CTU hack instead. Hate to say it, but you get what you vote for.

Go to Manhattan, you see police and cameras everywhere. Here in Chicago, you're lucky to see a police car driving by the neighborhood. No wonder NYC is 4x the population of Chicago yet has far less crime and homicides

If you care about selective enrollment schools than Vallas was way worse. Vallas wants to private schools, which would mean cutting funding to selective enrollment schools and eventually eliminate public schools altogether.

Only the ones nobody wants to send their kids to, in which case they should close anyway.

If my kids got into, say, Payton or Whitney Young and also had a full ride at St. Ignatius, I'd just as soon if not sooner send them to one of the former two. I'm quite sure I'm not alone.

The leftists that run Chicago are hell bent on destroying what's left of the good in CPS. They want to make all schools equally crappy. This is what happens when we allow CTU to run the City.

Conservatives like Vallas want to get rid of public education

Offering choice to black families would be the biggest win for the community in our lifetime. The kids in CPS aren’t learning anything, barely any are proficient even after they made the testing easier. Test scores are at 30 year lows, and the racial gap is the widest it’s ever been. If the schools had to compete against one another for funding and politics weren’t involved the kids may actually learn something.

Nobody is stopping people from sending their kids to a private school. Nobody is entitled to a private education. Thanks for proving the point that many conservatives want to defund public education, which would include selective enrollment schools.
