Household income, education levels are on the rise in most parts of Chicago. Chicago and the near suburbs have increased household incomes — even when adjusting for inflation — and have a higher percentage of adults with at least a bachelor’s degree, according to a WBEZ analysis of recently released Census data.

There is nothing particularly new or noteworthy about the longstanding many decades-long trend of working-class people migrating out of Chicago and out of Illinois. The deteriorating conditions in manufacturing, the declining number of overall consumers, and public service disruptions and disorder hurt those people more acutely. More prosperous people remain and the Chicago area has an enduring appeal for many.

Well, honestly, this is good-ish news.

Those staying in Chicago and enjoying the ample amenities, food, etc. are more and more the "upper middle professional class". So while population is declining overall, the ones that are staying are the ones that have income to spend.

I'd imagine the average age is getting younger, too. But that's just a guess.

Of course, those that fall below the working class that are still here, are largely in bad shape. Those numbers are dwindling in frequency but increasing in severity. This is following the pattern of diverging income classes.
