Lincoln Parkinzed basically means that some neighborhoods are starting to look the same. There's no distictive quality that makes Lincoln Park, Lakeview, or Wicker Park any different from each other any more. They all cater to the mid 20s to early 30s crowd, are loaded with bars/clubs, have a Starbucks or Cariboo on each corner, and have ridiculously priced vintage and modern apartments. But these neighborhoods are pretty safe and like other posters have said, you will be fine. Public transportation is plentiful and a grocery is never too far. You could also try the northwest Gold Coast, which is pretty close to the Rush/Division nightlife and the Loop, and if you can catch an apartment on "special", can be a real bargain for the location.

Your personality has to fit your neighborhood. I believe that quality is overlooked. Why not live in a neighborhood that suits you, instead of having to travel to others regularly, albeit a short train stop away.
