Does it seem that girls (in their 20s and 30s) from Michigan think Chicago is the promised land even more than most people.

Seriously, most people who love Chicago talk about pros and cons, etc. Maybe theres some other places they might like to live.

But girls from Michigan absolutely worship Chicago. (and often bad mouth Michigan). Guys from Michigan like Chicago it seems too, but they're not ga-ga, and they generally have good things to say about Michigan.

Does anyone besides me notice this, or is it pure coincidence?

Not my experience with people (guys/gals) from Michigan. Everyone I know from Michigan absolutely loves it and wouldn't live anywhere else if given a choice in the matter. Nothing lives up to Michigan in their minds. For the record, I know at least one Michigan female (currently residing in Illinois), who absolutely refuses to go into Chicago.

I have been a couple times.

There is more as far as bigger towns than Detroit though.

Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Royal Oak. I know these places don't offer quite as much as a real big city would, but there still pretty good, not to disregard Michigan.

If I was from Michigan, and I did land a good job in these places, I would like to live in these places.

This whole thread is a complete over-generalization about people from Michigan. Thanks.

no, you have it wrong. Girls from Tennessee think Chicago is the promised land.

oh wait, that's just me and my best friend.

(by the way, I actually am from Michigan but got forced to move to Tennessee when I was 12.)

I think Chicago being the largest city the tri-state border, I think you have some people suffering from "big-city dreamin." And other people have no problem staying in their small hometown so Chicago would be the next logical step.

Gross generalization.

To be more specific, intelligent Detroiters of both sexes love Chicago, the less intelligent, well "Go Tigers!" and "Detroit is coming back real soon."

Thats harsh! I hope you are not suggesting that being a Cubs fan reflects intelligence then. An average night after a game at Wrigley would very much suggest otherwise!

I was forced to move from Evanston to suburban Detroit at an impressionable age. I returned immediately after college graduation.

The entire Detroit metropolitan area is a cultural wasteland(no, Ann Arbor is not part of Metro Detroit). I may recover from the cultural depravation someday. Maybe not.
