Hello. My husband and I are moving to Chicago from Melbourne in the next 4 months. Visas are in order etc but I was wondering if anyone on this forum could suggest a good international moving company?

Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the tip. Did you recommend Allied as you have moved internationally with them?

If you're a native Australian... have fun during your first Chicago winter. Good times.

I would try to bring as little as possible and put what you want to keep in storage in AUS while selling and giving away as much as possible first.

I second that. It is much easier to travel light. I am stuck in an apartment with tons of stuff to get rid of... I wish I had less

I know a cross country move across the U.S. can run up into the thousands of dollars. The costs from Australia are likely staggering, not to mention the hassle of it. Unless you have some priceless antiques or something of great sentimental value, I'm sure you could buy a house full of furniture for less then the cost of hiring movers.

I'm from the US originally so the weather does not scare me. Trust me living in Melbourne with no heat during winter was an eye opener. Nothing like having your apartment hover at 54 F for 3 months.....

Thanks for the tips. Will keep researching from my end. Anyone relocated from Melb to Chicago on this forum? If so how do you find it?

Poddy:

I am seriously thinking about moving to Australia (Melbourne), I am sick of this cold weather, snow, and difficulty we have to face at family level ..also economy of US is not that great. I would assume every 5 - 7 years there is some kind of recession in US, 2001 (dot com, collapsed, not finacial market...who know what next)...any way my plan is to move to Australia in few months.

I am wondering if you have any inputs to share....in regards to life in australia...

Like..schooling, cost, family life, housing cost, day-to day life, library for kids..etc....I am pretty much aware of weather in australia.

Any inputs is appreciated.

Thanks
